ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY WEEK 2020
1st – 3rd December 2020 Virtual Summit
Green Economy drives sustainable growth in SA and Africa!
Everything we do during and after this crisis must be with a strong focus on building more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that are more resilient in the face of pandemics, climate change, and the many other global challenges we face. What the world needs now is solidarity.”
~ António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations
Since December 2019, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has quickly spread all over the world. In March 2020, it was declared a global pandemic by the WHO, having affected virtually all countries and territories. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are under threat everywhere, as nations face unprecedented health and economic challenges.
While the negative consequences of the crisis are clear, times of extreme uncertainty can also be windows of opportunity, if couple with innovation and doubled down on long-term, sustainable growth strategies. The 10th annual Sustainability Week will now be brought to you as a live virtual event, thus offering both exponential global reach and accessibility by easily bringing the content directly to the audience. The conference will facilitate a Global multi-sector dialogue that has never been more important and more timeous.
With the effects of climate change biting down like never before, wide spread environmental and human health challenges at the municipal scale, and the desperate need for employment and economic development—one key cross-cutting policy strategy has never been so obvious and so potentially powerful—economic stimulus through the green economy.
SUNX MALTA LAUNCHES CLIMATE FRIENDLY TRAVEL REGISTRY
Supporting 2050 Climate Neutral & Sustainability Ambitions of Travel & Tourism
During Climate Week NYC and in the side-lines of UN General Assembly, SUNx Malta launched a Climate Friendly Travel Registry for 2050 Climate Neutral & Sustainability Ambitions in partnership with the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), and Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA).
The idea of a Climate Neutral 2050 Ambitions Registry was built into the Paris 2015 Agreement, as a way for Parties to transparently declare and progressively increase their Carbon reduction ambitions through 2050, so as to secure global temperature stabilized at tolerable levels for human survival.
As a transformation catalyst this Registry will be open to all Travel & Tourism companies and communities, whether they have created a 2050 Carbon Neutral Ambition yet. It will cover transport, hospitality, travel services and infrastructure providers - from the smallest to the largest, anywhere in the world. It will also be a conduit to the mainstream UN Climate Action Portal.

Five key elements that impact our health within office interior spaces
Air contaminants, artificial lighting, background noise, crowded spaces and poor ergonomic design; all stressors that have a major impact on the health and wellbeing of an individual. From purchasing decisions to stabilizing our body clock, we need to recognize the social pillar of sustainable development. It is more important than ever not only to design ‘efficient buildings’ but also to design buildings that optimize our health and productivity.
Our perceptions of health and wellness vary from person to person and across countries and cultures. They can be subjective according to how each person is affected by their individual health status.
The World Health Organization defines health as the complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
With buildings influencing a big portion of our day to day activities, it is of great importance to identify and understand how our health is impacted by the built environment. More importantly, by understanding how each part of our surrounding environment contributes to our overall wellbeing, we can help to reduce the harmful effects and perhaps even improve our physical and mental wellbeing. Here are five indoor items impacting our health and a quick insight as to what we can do to make improvements.
